Seit 2016
Restaurant München opened its doors in spring 2016, on 2 May to be exact. Our mission is to bring Bavarian and German beer and food culture to Tartu and the rest of South Estonia.
We have furnished the rooms as authentically as we can, and we follow the rules of hospitality that Germany has refined over centuries. Our Stammkunden, the regulars, always come first.
Stammtisch
Our restaurant has several Stammtische: tables kept for one or a few groups of regulars. If a table's regulars aren't in, you're welcome to sit there. When they arrive, we may ask you to move to the next table.
Five rooms, one for every party
10–18seatsBierstube
The Bierstube, or beer room, is two connected rooms. Coming into the restaurant, you walk into the bar, which is the liveliest place in the house, especially late on weekend evenings. Next to the bar is a small beer room for 10 to 18 guests. It's simpler than the rooms at the back, but the old photos covering its walls make it cosy.
~40seatsRestaurant hall
This is the biggest room in the house, with seats for about 40 guests. Unlike the beer room, the seating here is comfortable enough for long hours of good company. During big events such as Oktoberfest, the hall is where everything happens. Planning an event with around 20 friends or colleagues? This is where we can set up a grand long table. The windows look out on the University of Tartu main building, a lovely sight especially at Christmas.
18seatsMünchner Stube
The Münchner Stube is named after the same city as the restaurant: Munich, the capital of Bavaria. We're proud of its Munich-themed mural, painted in 2015 by the artist Kätlyn Podiradt. The room seats 18 and is ideal for more private events. Its windows look out on the University of Tartu main building.
10–20seatsKaminstube
Bayerische Kaminstube
The Kaminstube, or fireplace room, is named after its fireplace. It also has the biggest table in the house, which seats 10, or even 20 beer lovers in good company. The interior is inspired by the Bavarian and Tyrolean Alps.
40+seatsBiergarten
Weihenstephaner Biergarten
Passers-by might miss it, but München's regulars know we have our own courtyard. In summer we open a traditional Biergarten there, with room for more than 40 beer lovers, tucked away from the bustle of the street and the scorching sun. The beer garden is dedicated to one of Bavaria's oldest brewers, Weihenstephaner.

In the restaurant hall we can set up a grand long table for about 20, and the Münchner Stube suits a more private evening for 18. Call or write to us and we'll find the right room for your group.
